Florida City Government Week — Celebrating Local Service & Community: October 20-26, 2025
Each year during Florida City Government Week we pause to celebrate the people, programs, and public services that make Green Cove Springs a safe, vibrant, and welcoming place to live. From first responders and sanitation crews to parks staff and planners, city employees work every day behind the scenes to protect our health, preserve our history, and build a stronger future for all residents.
This week we’ll be at:
- Monday, October 20: Charles E. Bennett Elementary: Reading to the Kindergarteners
- Tuesday, October 21: Charles E. Bennett Elementary: K9 Grit Day
- Tuesday, October 21: Charles E. Bennett Elementary: 5th Grade Essay Winners Recognized at City Council Meeting
- Wednesday, October 22: Charles E. Bennett Elementary: City Equipment Day
- Thursday, October 23: Green Cove Springs Junior High: City Equipment Day
- Friday, October 24: Charles E. Bennett Elementary: Showcasing the Winning Essays and all Entries on Social Media (Read the winning essays and all entries below)

Essay Winners
Fifth graders from Charles E. Bennett Elementary recently shared their ideas in the “If I Were Mayor for a Day” essay contest.
Congratulations to Stella Waswick, Seth Bailey, Sailor Thompson, Emma Ratterree, and Abigayle Young for writing the top five essays, as selected by Mayor Johnson!
We’re proud of these young students for their creativity, leadership, and thoughtful ideas for the future of Green Cove Springs!
