City-wide Sewer Evaluation and Smoke Testing

The Green Cove Springs Public Works will be conducting a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) from June 25 to July 25.

This survey will be conducted in sections throughout the city. It includes cleaning and running a video camera through sewer lines to determine the best ways to maintain and improve the city's sewer system.

The survey also includes smoke testing, which is when pressurized smoke is forced into the sewer system to find any open lines or connections. Any open lines or connections are located where smoke rises to the surface.

It is also common during this test for the smoke to rise out of roof vents. If this smoke is seen inside a residential home or business, that indicates an internal plumbing problem. Residents or business owners should ventilate the building and call public works at 904-297-7060.

Smoke testing will happen between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. This smoke is white to yellowish-white in color and may have a slight odor. However, it will not leave any stains and is not harmful to plants, animals or humans.
